The short answer is yes and it is through the IRS website, https://sa.www4.irs.gov/irfof-wmsp/ go here https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payments click on my payment and follow the direction.
However as of now, there are a lot of people trying to access that site which will cause delay and sometime just timed out, it’s like being DDOS attack. Telephone system might be the same or if that’s even possible.
Do not be surprise that this IRS tool for people to check their status isn’t working, and apparently it’s not working. People flooding to the site to check only to find the message “Payment Status Not Available
According to information that we have on file, we cannot determine your eligibility for a payment at this time. For more information on the eligibility rules, see our Frequently Asked Questions page.” Despite this message there are people saying that they’ve received the money in their account via bank deposit.
So what could have happened is that the database IRS put together for people to query probably still being updated, and with my many years or experience with database such as SQL and mySQL the IRS should have just let users to access by their personal identity combination such as ss#, dob and address good enough to match the data and result query should say “yes” or “no” I do not think the amount $ is needed. Should be easy to do, but probably the front end of getting the data is a different story, as I’ve heard the IRS still under some old program Cobalt which is ancient where when something went wrong they would need to hire some very old very old people fix if these people with Cobalt knowledge is still alive.
